OK, current business theory says that it’s better to positively coach your employees, especially the younger ones, rather than motivate through fear. Or maybe use both.
Well the fear wing has been heard from. Kelly Goldsmith and Ravi Dhar, writing in Kellog/Northwestern University’s Insight, published some interesting research on the topic.
Without repeating the entire paper, or what they pblished in Insight, older workers were more motivated by positive reinforcement, younger workers (under 35) more motivated by taking things away.
