So WNCT is digging deeper to see how ECU students compare, and why it taking them so long.

35 percent of ECU students graduate in 4 years, while 58 percent finish in 6 years. Across the UNC system, 63 percent of students take 6 years to graduate, and 58 percent take 5 years.

While the numbers may seem http://www.cheapjerseys11.com/ daunting, taking more time isn necessarily a bad thing.

Some factors may include students changing their major, switching schools, adding too many extracurricular activities, or simply not passing certain classes. Some students decide to add a double major or minor. At ECU, certain programs like nursing and engineering are so competitive, students who aren admitted the first time immediately push back graduation.

Associate Provost for Enrollment Services John Fletcher says each student faces a different challenge.

of our students feel that need to work. So sometimes, while we would love for their education to be their number one priority, they have to prioritize other parts of their life, Fletcher said.

That extra time doesn come cheap. We calculated the cost at ECU: for a North Carolina resident living on campus, it almost 20 thousand dollars per year; for out of state students, it’s nearly 35 thousand.

Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to email (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)MoreClick to share on Google+ (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)WNCT TV 9 On Your Side provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
